My son grew up watching Sesame Street and I think it is one of the best if not the best children’s show around. It was educational, entertaining, did not “talk down” to the kids and best of all could be enjoyed by adults as well (unlike some purple dinosaur that I can think of!) I [...]

It’s goodbye Ace

After a few weeks of less than inspiring performances with strange song choices, American Idol 5 got it right on 2 fronts — they had an awesome Rod Stewart-Great American Songbook episode, and Ace got voted out. I love Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook series so I really enjoyed this week's show with all the [...]

Winnie the Pooh gets Star

Winnie the Pooh sure does love his honey, but the beloved bear now has something just as sweet: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Not bad for a Bear of Very Little Brain!
On another note it is interesting that EH Shepherd who illustrated the Pooh books actually hated the bear and his association [...]

Oscars 2006

I managed to catch this year’s Oscars over NTV7 this morning and found it an unusual year for the Oscars in the sense that there was no big-time winner among the movies nominated. The awards for acting came from 4 different movies:
Best supporting actor: George Clooney – Syriana
Best supporting actress: Rachel Weisz – The Constant [...]

Japan’s Shizuka Arakawa glided into the history books when she captured Japan’s first-ever Winter Olympics figure skating gold medal. Sasha Cohen and Irina Slutskaya went out of contention for the top prize after they both tumbled to [...]

The American girls did their country proud by taking 1st, 5th and 7th position while the Japanese girls took 3rd, 4th and 8th place. In 6th place was Elene Gedevanishvili from Georgia, the youngest competitor there. Unfortunately [...]

The contest was closely fought with silver going to the Americans Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto, and bronze to the Ukrainians Elena Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov. Ice [...]

Figure Skating: Men

I enjoyed the Men’s Free Skate this morning – thankfully the transmission held up despite the overcast sky. Good thing the repeat was shown in the morning as there was a heavy downpour as usual in the afternoon. Evgeni Plushenko won the gold medal with another awesome performance and finished way ahead of the rest [...]

Figure Skating: Pairs

I just finished watching the Pairs Free Skate and it was just in time too. The rain started pouring in SJ around 4pm, putting paid to the Astro transmission, but thankfully after the last competitor of the day. Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin put up a spectacular nearly perfect performance to win the gold medal. [...]

Opening Ceremony

I enjoyed the Opening Ceremony yesterday, the highlights for me being the tour of Italian culture (wonderful costumes), the rendition of Nessun Dorma by Luciano Pavarotti and the spectacular lighting of the Olympic torch. Check out the rest of the Opening Ceremony Gallery.
The Figure Skating Pairs competition began today with the short programme. The Russian [...]
